During the renovation of the Zagreb Cathedral – also known by its full name, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saints Stephen and Ladislaus – from the earthquake that struck the city in 2020, construction crews are utilizing two GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transport platforms in pivotal roles during this important project on a cultural and architectural monument.

The two 1500 Z/ZP machines, fitted with platform A variants measuring 1.45 m by 1.65 m, each serve three stops, all of which are outfitted with GEDA Comfort landing safety gates to bolster worker safety as they step across at various levels of the cathedral.

Capable of lifting up to 2,000 kg at speeds of 12 m/min for passengers and 24 m/min for materials and goods, the platforms also feature GEDA UNI-X-MAST systems, with two masts to ensure a smooth ride and low anchoring forces to the scaffolding surrounding the Zagreb Cathedral.

According to GEDA, the cathedral’s height exceeds the maximum conveyor height of 100 m on a standard GEDA 1500 Z/ZP, but the German manufacturer said a custom solution was devised to overcome the height difference and to make for a smooth restoration of the landmark.

GEDA’s customer on the project is AGRAM d.o.o., Layher’s representative in Croatia, and the firm’s contributions, in addition to the GEDA platforms, have helped execute the cathedral project, which started in May 2023 and is scheduled to finish in five years.
