Video: Sustainable Construction webinar

A recording of Construction Europe’s first sustainable construction webinar is now available to view.

The event looked at the ways contractors could alter their working practices to reduce carbon emissions and help Europe meet its climate change pledges - while maintaining profitable businesses.

The webinar’s panel included Dave Cheshire, a director with Aecom and author of the book Building Revolutions, which examines possibilities for applying circular economy principles to the built environment.

He spoke about innovative ideas being introduced to contemporary European projects, to reduce carbon emissions, both at the design stage and further along the project workflow.

Another panellist was Ian Riley, chief executive officer of the World Cement Association, and formerly a senior executive with Lafarge Holcim.

Riley described the moves currently being made to reduce carbon in the manufacture of cement, as well as some of the technology being deployed in an effort to bring affordable green cement to market.

Karl Thies of the European Construction Industry Federation FIEC joined the webinar to discuss, among other things, opportunities for construction companies to make use of sustainable financing.

He also as described offshoots of the European Commission’s Green Deal, including the Renovation Wave and the Fit for 55 packages.
