SAIA to debut new training, offer online options

The Scaffold & Access Industry Association (SAIA) will launch two new training classes this summer as well as extend its digital and online options, it announced.

In the coming months, the SAIA University (SAIAU) Training Program will expand to offer Fall Protection and Scaffold Inspection classes, both of which will be available to take online. More information will soon be available.

Also new for this year is the SAIA’s Journeyperson Scaffold Training course for the Canadian market. The Journeyperson Program consists of three levels of training: Level 1 (1st Year Apprentice), Level 2 (2nd Year Apprentice) and Specialty Level (3rd Year Apprentice.) The program requires documented hours worked for each level of proficiency completed and is only offered in Canada.

The SAIA also noted that it is updating its Suspended Competent Person Training class, which will be made available around the end of the year. Additionally, for those looking to take mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) or mast climbing work platform (MCWP) training, students can receive either through the SAIA’s alliance with the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF.) Interested participants can find out more on the SAIA’s training website, here.

Continuing its digital push, the Association also announced the availability of a digital testing option for its in-person Competent Person Training (CPT,) which eliminates the need for Scantron bubble test sheets while also providing immediate results.

As a reminder, all necessary hands-on competency components remain in place.

Lastly, the SAIA now has digitized CPT Supported and Journeyperson manuals, allowing anyone with a mobile device, laptop or tablet to access necessary materials online. Manuals are also still available in printed, paper formats.
