Germany-based company Märker Zement has installed a hoist platform to enable construction works to a new cement kiln at its site in Bavaria.

Located west of Stuttgart in the Donau-Ries district, Märker Zement is a family-run stone and earth industries specialist that manufactures cement, lime, ready-mixed concrete, precast concrete and gravel products for construction industry contractors across the country.

A BL 2000 Twin hoist from access specialist Geda has been installed at the site to provide to transport building materials, tools and workers up the new 118m-high heat exchanger tower during its construction.

The standard version of the Geda BL 2000 Twin hoist as a large 3.20 x 1.45 x 2.1m platform, a hoisting speed of 40m/min and maximum load capacity of 2000kg.

Described as the “main artery of the building site”, the hoist is also available in a premium model with optional extras including remote maintenance, wind sensors and intelligent call control features.

Geda, which last year installed a permanent hoist from its SH Series on an old 80m high heat exchanger tower adjacent to the new kiln, said, “The transportation of up to 23 persons has been designed to be pleasant, secure and effective.

“The continuous movement of all relevant personnel on this high structure can be ensured and significant efficiency increases have been detected. Bulky goods can also be transported up to a hoisting height of 250m.”

Märker Zement’s new kiln, construction of which began in the summer of 2020, will eventually lead to the replacement of an existing 50-year-old kiln on the site, and will help to secure jobs and improve the impact of the facility on the environment.

Once construction is complete, two Geda platforms will be permanently installed to the kiln’s cooler building.

A Geda 3700 ZP P and a Geda SH 2500 - consisting of a high-load capacity transport platform - will be installed for future maintenance and repair works in the Spring of this year.
