Time to register for Committee Week

The The 2022 SAIA Committee Week event will set the stage for members and non-members alike to exchange advice, air grievances and come up with solutions for industry challenges. There are also ample opportunities for networking.

Kicking off the first day, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the SAIA’s Train the Trainer course. That afternoon, an Accredited Training Institute (ATI) Meeting will be held. The following day involves Competent Person Training (CPT) for the following scaffolds: system scaffold, suspended scaffold and frame scaffold.

There are four additional training courses offered through the SAIA University Training Program that attendees can also sign up for; details are below.

Train the Trainer Facilitator Skills Workshop runs May 1 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The interactive, 8-hour course is $545 for members and $645 for non-members. Participants will review basic ideas about training and adult learning skills, check current practices and go over presentation skills. Through the program, participants will leave with the skills training requirement for the new SAIA Accredited Training Institutes instructors.

Competent Person Training for Frame Scaffold covers safety in frame scaffold foundations, scaffold components, regulations, guardrail requirements and erection and dismantling procedures that exceed the standard height-to-base ratio.

Competent Person Training for Suspended Scaffold covers safety for the suspended scaffold stages, ropes, regulations, guardrail requirements, fall protection, hoists and installation requirements.

Competent Person Training for System Scaffold covers safety regarding system scaffold foundations, scaffold components, regulations, guardrail requirements, and erection and dismantling procedures that exceed the standard height-to-base ratio.

The Competent Person Training programs are $350 for members and $450 for non-members. They will be held May 2 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. The courses involve presentations, question and answer opportunities, hands-on learning and a final exam. Those who score a 70 percent or higher on the final exam, as well as displaying competency in building a frame scaffold, will result in a Certificate of Completion for the course and a wallet card from the SAIAU Training Program.

MEWP Operator Training is on May 2 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. The course is $225 for members and $275 for non-members. Designed for people who want to safely operate MEWP equipment, the course will include an online component. It instructs an operator to prepare and safely operate different types of MEWPs. Categories include Mobile Vertical (3a) and Mobile Boom (3b.)

There will also be SAIA Board of Directors and SAIAEF Board of Directors meetings, the latter being for members only. These two meetings conclude the training sessions as the Association moves forward into council presentations.

On the third day, guests will hear from the Industrial, Shoring, Plank and Platform, Supported and Fall Protection Councils.

The Suspended Council will be discussing the best way to understand what is required in the OSHA standards for suspended system tiebacks.

The Supported Council is starting with a safety presentation on the frame scaffold tip sheet and the frame cantilever tip sheet. The council is currently finishing the System Bay Brace guidelines and Frame and Brace guidelines so it can produce The System Cantilever Tip Sheet.

Lastly, the Fall Protection Council will have a discussion of potential presentation options for the Annual Council. They will also introduce the new council chair as well as new co-chairs.

The fourth day will involve discussions from the Mast Climber, Construction Hoist, MEWP and International Councils. Most will be discussing plans for the convention in August, feedback on round table panel member participants and the status of their ongoing projects.

The Permanent Installation Council will speak on terminology and articles for SA Magazine. Finally, the Canadian Council will cover its progress on the gaps analysis document. There will be a general forum where participants can offer ideas and feedback on issues and projects.

The final day of Committee Week will include an ASC A11 meeting (Accredited Standards Committee) as well as a SSFI briefing, which is the Scaffolding, Shoring, & Forming Institute.
